Big city projects to benefit from airport sale proceeds
30.07.07
Leeds City Council have pledged to use the £51m windfall from the sale of Leeds Bradford Airport to fund several big projects in the city. The money will allow the council to fund a new concert arena, a city centre swimming pool and help with the school rebuilding programme. It will also be used to help fund road repairs and urban regeneration schemes.
Leeds Bradford Airport was sold to Bridgepoint Capital in April for £145.5m after councils in Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield agreed to sell their shares. Leeds Council leader Mark Harris said: 'We would have been unable to deliver many of these projects without the airport windfall. We will ensure that it is invested wisely in projects that will have a lasting benefit for the people of Leeds.'
