Ryanair launch new base
06.03.10
Ryanair opened its new base at Leeds Bradford Airport yesterday. The step is anticipated to generate 1000 jobs in the region and will see fourteen new routes to six countries take off, with an investment worth over £90 million.
The low-cost airline will offer sixty three weekly flights to and from the hub, which Tony Hallwood, commercial director for Leeds Bradford, described as a significant milestone. He said: ‘It will really put Leeds, Bradford and the whole of Yorkshire region on the map. It will support a significant increase in the number of inbound tourists and they will be delivered from the 6 countries the flights are from.’
Ryanair has stated the move is expected to increase the budget airline's traffic at Leeds Bradford to at least one million passengers a year on the 14 new routes, which are from France, Italy, Spain, Malta, Poland and Ireland.'
