As almost every travel company on the planet - large all small - seems to have become obsessed with its 'social media strategy', budget airline Jet2 has taken the unusual step of scaling back its activity, tnooz reports. It recently suspended its Twitter account.
This is an unusual decision – the airline could have simply stopped tweeting, for example. But a spokesman for Jet2 told tnooz that the airline opted to stop using Twitter entirely – including pulling its profile from the system – because it 'could not devote the resources to maintaining its presence in a valuable way for its followers.'
Until its closure, Jet2 had used the account to plug offers and provide information, and it sometimes interacted with passengers and potential customers. It may resurrect its profile in the future when it has established a strategy to manage it effectively, the spokesman said.
Tnooz said that the airline’s decision 'perhaps sheds some light on the thinking of travel companies that initially rushed to create a presence in various social media channels, only to discover that running such entities requires significant effort and a coherent strategy.'
