Shaheen to increase Islamabad flights
22.02.08
The number of flights between Leeds Bradford Airport and Islamabad is set to increase by 50 percent, less than a month after the route was launched. Shaheen Air is upping its frequency on the route from two flights a week to three - using wide-bodied A310 aircraft - from March 7.
The route was only launched on February 7, but has already proved a success. Wahid Farid, manager of the UK representative of Shaheen Air, said: 'February is usually quiet and we would have expected the aircraft to be half full at best. But the flights have been three-quarters or nearly full, well ahead of expectations.'
Sally Ramsey, business development manager at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: ‘After only two weeks of operations, the decision to increase the frequency is fantastic news and meets the demand of our passengers.’
According to press reports there is also a possibility that Shaheen Air could announce another direct route from Leeds Bradford - to Lahore. The airline is said to be so encouraged by demand for the Islamabad service that it is hoping to introduce the second destination before the end of the year.
