93% of flights on agreed course
22.01.11
More than 9 in 10 flights operating from Leeds Bradford Airport are on course when they fly over Burley-in-Wharfedale, a presentation at its Neighbourhood Forum revealled. The meeting was called as for years residents have claimed aircraft leaving Leeds Bradford have not been ‘track-keeping’ as they fly overhead.
David Smillie, the airport’s head of airside operations, told the meeting the airport's track-keeping has improved considerably during the last couple of years, with 93% of flights staying within the ‘noise preferential route’. The route, which cuts across to the west of the airport and extends to an opening of 1.5km between Burley and Menston, is also narrower than the usual 3km opening allowed at most regional airports around the country, he added.
