Major expansion for Jet2
20.11.10
Jet2 will launch 26 new routes and increase capacity on a number of existing services from several UK airports next year. The airline, which carried a record 2.8 million passengers over the summer, has already added winter flights to Hurghada, Madeira, Geneva, Chambery, Salzburg and Budapest this year.
In 2011 Jet2 plans to carry an extra 1 million passengers on the new routes, which include flights to Brive, Bodrum and Krakow. The budget airline will also open new hub at Glasgow Airport from March 2011. In order to launch the new flights, the airline will add four aircraft to its fleet and recruit 600 new members of staff.
Philip Meeson, the CEO of Jet2, said: ‘Despite it being a challenging economic climate, which has seen both airlines and tour operators fail, we have had a very successful 2010 to date. We put this down to our friendly service, the popularity of our convenient flight times, our 22kg baggage allowance, allocated seats and points for free flights that reward our loyal customers.’
