Airport deny councillor's more noise claim

A councillor warned local residents to brace themselves for more jets flying over Ilkley, but Leeds Bradford Airport insists there has been no increase in air traffic over the town, the Ilkley Gazette reports.
Ilkley Parish Council chairman Alan Morrell said more planes will fly over Ilkley when Ryanair starts new flights from the airport early next year. Residents would have to ‘get used to it’, he said, adding that there has already been a steady increase in noise from aircraft over Ilkley this year.
However, a spokesman for Leeds Bradford Airport told the newspaper that it has checked flight records and there has been no rise in the number of aircraft flying over the town.
Ryanair is to open a new base at Leeds Bradford Airport from January, offering 14 new routes and 63 weekly return flights. The move is expected to also create 1,000 jobs at the airport.
