Second passport check error revealed
15.12.07
Passengers arriving at Leeds Bradford Airport on an international flight have been allowed to enter unchecked through passport control for a second time. The revelation came the day that Government officials told a local MP that security at the airport had been tightened after a similar incident in October.
Passengers arriving on a flight from Brussels on Monday were taken through the domestic arrivals gate due to a 'human error,' avoiding normal checks to gain access to the UK, an airport spokesman said. He added that the mistake was quickly rectified. All passengers were eventually checked.
Ironically, details of the latest incident came to light on the day that local MP Greg Mulholland, whose constituency includes the airport, received a letter from the Border and Immigration Agency responding to his concerns over the previous incident. He said: 'it beggars belief that it had been allowed to happen again.'
