Airport planning application vote today

Leeds Bradford Airport’s £28m plan for the development of its passenger terminal goes before planners tomorrow. The airport says the scheme will transform the site and help it prepare for the next decade. It is part of a £70m package of improvements over the next five years.
Planners are being asked to approve a two-storey extension to main terminal building to provide new entrance, improved internal facilities and associated landscaping works to the terminal building forecourt.
If approved, the scheme could be completed by the middle of this year, with the new facilities ‘best in class,’ and seen as an important step in catering for an anticipated increase in passengers from the current 3m per year to 5m by 2013, creating up to 2,000 new jobs. However, concerns about the environmental impact of the airport’s expansion plans and the massive increase in passenger numbers have been raised.
