Spanish infrastructure company Abertis has made a bid for Leeds Bradford Airport, according to Spanish news reports. The airport has been put up for sale by its five local councils owners, with an expected sale price of between £120 - £150m. Final bids for the airport were submitted last week by a reported five groups, with the airport planning to evaluate them and select a preferred bidder early next month.
Spain's El Pais newspaper said Abertis has bid between £120m - £137m for the airport. It already owns and operates three British airports - Luton, Belfast International and Cardiff - via its controlling stake in airport operator TBI.
Last week The Times said British builder Balfour Beatty had teamed up with French state-owned financial institution Caisse des Depots et Consignations to bid around £140m for the airport. Other bidders are said to include GE Capital, private equity firm Bridgepoint and a local developer.
