Jet2 hopes to help former RAF pilots
14.03.11
Leeds Bradford Airport based Jet2 has pledged to help redundant RAF pilots find work in the commercial sector, the Telegraph & Argus reports. The airline is looking to increase its pilot numbers by 17% this year to over 350 by taking on 140 extra pilots as part of a major expansion.
The airline already employs 50 ex-servicemen and women at its UK bases. RAF pilots seeking to switch to the commercial sector were briefed about their options at an event held by Jet2 at its training centre at Leeds Bradford Airport. The briefing was held following the announcement of thousands of RAF redundancies due to the Government’s defence cuts.
Jet2 managing director Ian Doubtfire and human resources director Richard Chambers talked to those attending about the airline’s operations, its selection process and job opportunities. Mr Doubtfire, said: ‘It was fantastic to meet so many service pilots. With the news of huge redundancies in the armed forces over the next few years, it is a tough time for many – but there are options. I look forward to welcoming more ex-service men and women to the friendly team at Jet2 in the near future.’
