New taxi rank could cost almost £1m
10.10.11
A new taxi rank near Leeds Bradford Airport would cost taxpayers almost £1m. Leeds City Council is considering building a rank on Whitehouse Lane to deal with traffic problems after the airport introduced a drop-off charge, which has increased traffic congestion around the hub.
The costs of providing a taxi rank on the road outside the airport would be significant due to the amount of engineering work needed. Work would include widening the road, introducing new traffic management and diverting public utilities.
Building a 22-space rank would cost at least £515,000 and could rise by a further £325,000 for the excavation and disposal of contaminated materials. There could also be additional costs of £65,000 for landscaping and customer waiting facilities.
Councillors will consider a report on congestion and building a taxi rank Wednesday.
