Ex-Leeds United director wins airport taxi contact
06.01.08
A minicab firm owned and operated by former Leeds United director David Richmond has won an exclusive contract to operate private hire vehicles to and from Leeds Bradford Airport. Mr Richmond's Arrow private hire company is replacing the Hackney carriage cars that were provided by 3 firms who had operated at the terminal under the banner of the Airport Taxi Association.
The new five-year deal means Horsforth-based Arrow cabs will be the only vehicles allowed to drop passengers outside the airport terminal because of tightened security. Other taxi firms have to drop passengers at the nearby short-stay car park. Arrow will also be the sole provider of cabs from a taxi rank at the airport.
Mr Richmond said that he has invested more than £1.5m in the new operation and expects to have a fleet of more than 350 taxis by March. He said he had won the tender because he was prepared to build and staff an office running 24-hours a day.
A spokesman for Leeds Bradford Airport said Arrow had also demonstrated commitment to customer service, as well as competitive fares.
