Problems for drivers at short term car park
03.09.07
Drivers dropping off passengers at Leeds Bradford Airport have suffered problems because barriers at their short stay car park keep breaking down - most recently last Friday evening.
After the terror attack on Glasgow Airport earlier this summer, Leeds Bradford, along with most UK airports, made changes to drop off / pick up arrangements. Motorist can no longer drive up to the outside of the terminal buildings, but instead must use the airport's short stay car park, if they want to pick up or drop off passengers.
This new 'passenger irritation system', as one of our readers called it, seems to be operating smoothly at most airports, however, drivers at Leeds Bradford are reported to have had problems because car park barriers, or the computer that controls them, have failed on a number of occasions, leading to long delays.
Tempers flared last Friday evening (August 31) when the computers raising and lowering the exit barrier failed. Whilst staff sought to fix the system, hundreds of passengers queue to leave the car park.
A reader tells us: 'Rather than manually raise the barrier and allow the cars to leave, staff sought to repair the system - presumably in order not to lose their source of income - thus infuriating a growing number of drivers trying to leave the car park. According to the staff this is not the first time this problem has been encountered, and clearly it is a situation that is ongoing.'
We contacted the airport for a comment on the problems, but have yet to receive a reply.
