Plane makes emergency landing
03.02.08
A passenger plane carrying 103 people made an emergency landing at Leeds Bradford Airport yesterday afternoon. A full emergency was declared when the pilot of an Austrian Airlines flight radioed ahead to report a problem with one engines. The crew of the Fokker 100, flying from Innsbruck to Leeds Bradford, had noticed the engine was malfunctioning.
Twelve fire engines were seen at the airport ready for the emergency landing at 15:00. However, eyewitnesses say the plane appeared to land on one engine without any problems.
A spokesman for the airport said: 'The right engine was idle; it wasn't working correctly. The aircraft thankfully made a safe landing and no-one was injured. Everybody has been taken off.' The airport was operating normally and no other flights had been affected, she added.
Austrian Airlines said that it should not be called an emergency landing. Livia Dandrea-Boehm said: 'It was not an emergency landing. It was a normal landing with one engine in idle mode - which means having priority for landing at air traffic control.'
